I have always had a passion for music since I could remember. When my family and I moved to Chicago from New York I started playing guitar.Ever since then I’ve had a intense passion for music. My biggest musical influences would be Beethoven, Stevie Wonder, Nine Inch Nails, Van Halen, A Perfect Circle, Nina Simone, The Meters. After my freshman year of college, I went to a music store where I formally took lessons and started teaching privately. I truly believe that music is therapeutic, confidence building and a very integral part of humanity. My personal philosophy with music is “Music can teach us to be honest because true music cannot be faked.”

I also have a passion for composition/songwriting and recording.

First piece of music that had a profound effect on me: When I was 7 my family went on a vacation to Poconos in Pennsylvania and I was able to get a cassette at the gift shop. I just did a book report on Beethoven and got his classics on cassette. My brother let me borrow his Walkman and I kept listening to the first movement of Symphony #5 and Moonlight Sonata over and over. The music opened up my mind in a profound way where I was able to hear the anguish and overall emotions of this dance of instruments.

Music teacher who inspired me the most: My guitar teacher Kieth was the teacher that helped me discover a love for music and guitar. When I was in high school I was enrolled in a Music Theory class and I really enjoyed the thought of learning the little nuances and formulas for music. After the first day of class I was really intimidated and embarrassed because I didn’t think I had what it took to learn the material. I asked my teacher, Mr. Boyd, the second day of class if I could talk to him after school and when I saw him I just told him how I felt. He wouldn’t let me quit and said if I needed any help he would be there. His dedication imparted a passion for me to learn the material. If it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t be a musician/music teacher.

How I am making the world a better place: I have the opportunity to teach students how to play music and learn about songwriting. Music has a lot to offer when it comes to self discipline, self discovery and creativity, as well as the therapeutic nature of music in a mental and spiritual sense. Helping a student get to a goal that they want to achieve shows what hard work and dedication to a goal is a very rewarding experience. I don’t know a better feeling than that.

Favorite quote about music:  “Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.” Plato
