Chris Ray studied piano as a child. He became interested in bass guitar in high school and made the decision to major in music at that point. Chris received his Bachelor of Music from Wisconsin Conservatory and began touring and playing with a variety of different groups for more than 25 years. In 2008, Chris went back to school to pursue additional music education, graduating from DePaul University with a master’s degree in Bass Performance.
In addition to teaching at The Music Room, Chris teaches electric bass and string bass at McHenry County College, College of Lake County, and Trinity University. He also plays weekly in the worship band for the Village Church of Barrington.
Chris’s teaching style is to progress students forward as quickly as possible, while taking care not to move on until the material is played or well understood.
“I believe that ultimately we all teach ourselves,” said Chris. “But as a teacher my role is to point students in the right direction.”
