Music is a universal language that brings together people from all walks of life. We believe it brings communities together too. The Music Room is proud to support music education in our hometown of Palatine, as well as throughout the Northwest suburbs. In addition to Gear Shift, our program for providing musical instruments for disadvantaged children and adults, we support music students in Palatine, Rolling Meadows, Barrington, Inverness, Hoffman Estates and Lake Zurich.
The Music Room’s ‘Gear Shift’ Program Puts Musical Instruments in the Hands of the Disadvantaged
You can’t learn to play an instrument if you don’t have one. You need the gear. The Music Room’s Gear Shift program takes the community’s unwanted instruments that are still in repairable condition and turns them into instruments for a disadvantaged child or adult who might otherwise not have the chance to play. Now in its fifth year, more than 50 instruments have been provided through local organizations such as Clearbrook Center in Palatine, Lutherbrook Child and Adolescent Center in Addison, Ill., The People’s Music School in Chicago, and the Palatine Opportunity Center. “We are extremely grateful to our customers and community for making this program possible,” said The Music Room Owner Carol Cook.
